“书”和“信”有什么区别?为什么家书、情书叫做书而不是信?当同济大学国际文化交流学院副院长宗骞向留学生们抛出这个问题时,他们纷纷陷入思考。
宗骞解释道,在中国古代,最早书和信是有区别的,书指信件,信指送信的使者。后来慢慢的,书信就成了复合词。大家这才恍然大悟。
在上海同济大学国际文化交流学院,来自世界各地的中文预科班留学生们每年会面临一项特殊的任务——给家人写一封用中文书写的家书。
Writing letters home in Chinese has become a tradition for international students at Shanghai’s Tongji University. After months of studying the Chinese language, students from all over the world are tasked with the assignment of composing a letter to their families in Chinese characters.

宗骞表示,起初,这项活动只是个别班级的做法。但当其他学生看到了展出的家书,纷纷主动提出想要参与。今年,几乎所有预科班留学生都交了自己写的家书。
“At first, this activity was operated in a few classes. But when other students saw the letters on display, they took the initiative to write letters home on their own,” explains Zong Qian, associate dean of the international school at the university.
这批留学生去年9月来到中国,大多从零基础开始学习中文。经过几个月的努力,他们已经掌握了基本的中文沟通和文字表达能力。
Most of the international students had no Chinese proficiency before they arrived in Shanghai. But after months of study, they have acquired basic Chinese speaking and writing skills.
“爸,有时我真的需要你的帮助。当我难过的时候,老师和朋友们总是帮我。”
“这个月上海的天气比柬埔寨的冷多了。但是我喜欢冷的天气,因为只要多穿衣服,很舒服。”
“我在A+班,我的同学们都真漂亮和帅。我觉得A+班的老师是最好的老师。”
“在中国我喜欢上网购物。我知道为什么中国人喜欢在网上买东西。我总是用手机付,中国挺方便的。”
“现在我们可以用汉语聊天儿,真幸福!”
宗骞感叹:“学生们会把在这儿得到的关心或遇到的趣事分享给父母,也会讲学习中文时遇到的一些困难,包括对家人的牵挂。老师们时常会被留学生们有趣的表达和流露的真情实感所打动。”
学院计划将这些学生的家书集结出书,并收集了学生家人的回信。土库曼斯坦的一位父亲在给女儿珍妮(Jennet Gurbangulyyeva)的信中写道:“我十分确信我们让你来中国学习的决定没有错。我的主要期望实现了——你已经爱上了这个国家。如果没有这种对中国、中国人民和丰富文化的热爱,即使再努力,我的女儿也难以在这么短的时间内学习中文并取得如此进步”。
The university also plans to publish a collection of the letters home from the students, including some replies from their families.

对于留学生们自己来说,写家书不仅是一次语言学习的实践,更是对他们情感和生活的宝贵记录。
For the students themselves, writing a letter home has proved to be an invaluable experience in embracing their adopted language and surroundings.
“打视频电话时,我们通常只是随便聊聊天,叙叙旧。但当写一封长信时,我才能真正表达我对他们的思念之情”。来自柬埔寨的李达龙(Neth Chanranuth)说:“我以前从未写过信,所以家人收到后更受到了感动”。
“When making video calls, we usually just have casual conversations catching up. But when writing a long letter, I could really convey how much I was missing them,” said Neth Chanranuth from Cambodia.
对拥有中国血统,但出生并一直生活在巴拿马的傅家蔚而言,用中文写信一开始很奇怪。不过,她能体会到爷爷收到信后的骄傲感。“中国虽然离我家很远,但我的生活中总有中国文化。我来中国学习的一部分原因就是了解爷爷口中的中国和自己的根脉。”
For Fu Jiawei who has Chinese ancestry but was born and raised in Panama, writing a letter in Chinese was “weird” in the beginning. However, she can see how proud her grandfather was after receiving her letter.
来自赞比亚的山竹(Chipo Bard Shanzuwa Chintu)通过这次活动深刻感受到了中文和书信的魅力,“一开始,学习中文对我来说有点困难。但当我对它有了更多了解后,我发现它相当有趣,而且有很强的逻辑。我认为书信是一种特殊的交流方式。收到信后,那张有形的纸就会化成永恒的记忆,让人可以一次又一次地回味那些打动自己的真挚话语。”
“In the beginning, learning Chinese was a little difficult for me. But when I got to learn more about it, I found it quite interesting and logical,” said Chipo Bard Shanzuwa Chintu from Zambia. “I also think letters are more of a special way of communication. ”
